Another 7×9 Floor Plan

Here’s another one, this time inspired by the one 6×8 plan I found on the Approche Paille forum.

I like this alot! The main difference is that instead of having a utility room and a separate entrance, the utility becomes a large cupboard within the hall. Also the stairs go into the same space which means they can be shut off from downstairs, reducing the amount of heat that goes up the stairs.

Upstairs works well too: we get three good-sized bedrooms, space for the flue to come up from downstairs, and light through the side window.

There are 8 windows in total. Those on the ground floor would be large french doors (the two on the south face) and a large triple window (trois vantaux) with a window seat to the west.

These plans were drawn with SweetHome 3D – which runs a bit too slowly for 3D mode on my laptop but works just fine on James’s.

Sample 8×6 Floor Plan

By Vincent

I found this example of an 8×6 floor plan on the Approche Paille forum. It’s someone with a similar budget to use (a bit more than us) working along similar lines. At this point in their build they were struggling with the conundrum of where to position their stove. In a comment further down the forum page they said they’d been advised by an architect to position it between the two large windows a the front. Good advice. That’s what we’ll do.

Since the guy who designed this is not to far from us, I’ll be getting in touch to ask whether we can visit to see how their build is going. They were submitting their permit last year and it looks like they’re now planning the foundations.

Floor Plans

We have a 7×9 floor plan which works but we want to find an alternative that means the flue from the stove can come up through the middle of the house. Here’s one I came up with this morning. Exact dimensions need some work but this is the general idea.

All the pics were drawn on the iPad using Keyplan Lite.
